Megan Mullally stopped by Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show to thank her for paving the way to the sitcom “Will and Grace.” DeGeneres came out on her own sitcom in the 90s.
Mullally and Ellen talked about the death of Mullally’s mother and how she coped – with a little help from Marie Kondo.
But when the topic turned to the upcoming episode of “Will & Grace,” Mullally mentioned that there was an “homage” to Ellen’s famous coming out episode from her show. In the recent story arc of “Will & Grace” Mullally’s character, Karen, has started a relationship with another woman, played by Samira Wiley.
“I heard,” Ellen said. “That’s really cool.”
“I’ve said this in a lot of other interviews, but I don’t think I’ve ever actually said it to you,” Mullally told Ellen. “Your show really laid the groundwork for Will & Grace. I don’t know if there would have been a Will & Grace had you not done that show and come out. So thank you for that.
“Thank you for my career,” she laughed.
